                                         Signing autographs was always awkward for me, so I often just made drawings.

     With Anne Haubek (far right), a Danish student I met while studying in Siena, Italy, 1983. Though I didn't practice studio art           during that semester, I lived with artists and was for months surrounded by medieval architecture and Renaissance art.
     After the experience, I expanded my college studies at Berkeley to include art history, classical archaeology, and painting.
