Mazon Creek Fossil Fauna

Arthropods

Millipedes and Centipedes

Mazon Creek millipedes were likely similar to their modern forms in that they burrowed and lived amidst detritus on the swamp floor. Fossil centipedes from the area are the earliest known examples in the fossil record. They were likely agile hunters of insects.
